If you want to sell a grave site or mausoleum space, the first person you should contact is the the cemetery staff – there may be restrictions in regards to the sale or transfer of the property that you maybe unaware of – sometimes there are state laws governing such a sale, or it was in the fine print of the contract you signed on purchase.
Sometimes a cemetery will buy back a plot (some have waiting lists of people interested in buying plots at their location) or act as a broker or they may have suggestions as to how to go about selling your space – through local Funeral Directors (who also may act as a broker for the space) or even through the newspaper.
Be aware of your state and local laws, as well – it’s always a good idea to consult your state’s Board of Funeral Directors to investigate any restrictions on the sale of cemetery space, or even contact a Family Attorney if there are any questions in your mind.
