Restorative Arts is used to describe the part of embalming that prepares a body cosmetically for viewing. After death, there are many physiological changes that occur in the body, some of which can change things like skin color, tone, etc. Sometimes trauma or serious illness can negatively impact the condition of a body, and restorative arts can bring them back to what the living remember seeing. Restorative arts is a combination of reconstructive techniques and cosmetic applications and often helps the bereaved say goodbye with a positive image of a deceased loved one in their mind.
